Dear, Mrs Bell, Catherine, Karina, Charlie, Molly, Rosie, Robert and Shona.
It was with much sadness I read of Davids sudden passing. My sincerest condolences to you all following this much loved icon of a man. 
I first met David in 1977 when he commenced Grade 5 at Rangeville State School, Toowoomba. We immediately struck up a true friendship. The following 3 years lay foundation to some truly hilarious memories and adventures. Coincidentally Robert was in my younger brothers class. 
In 1980 David moved to Brisbane to attend BGS, myself went to TGS. In the years following and up until David was at university we maintained contact. Sometimes catching up at the Gold Coast during the Christmas/New Year period. I remember the Bell family holidayed at "Sandpiper"  We periodically corresponded with "old school" letters, often addressed with ridiculous names. As time moved on I went to the bush and David headed overseas. Unfortunately we lost contact.
By chance in 2017 I was attending a TGS school reunion when I heard that David was now Director of Sport and Activities at TGS. I immediately contacted TGS who provided an email address for David - and  "surprise surprise"  David immediately contacted me. David said that only the day before he was driving up my parents street looking for their home - in which they still live. Davids recall was astounding - he could recite names of every class mate from Grade 5. 
It was an absolute privilege and pleasure for David to meet my wife and children and to share a meal. Often at times wiping tears of laughter away remembering an old story. 
Now tears are of grief, but I will always remember the good times.
I only spoke to David a few months ago - my sides were aching when the call was over. 
I was unable to attend yesterdays service, but was able to watch via youtube, Very moving with a selection of speakers who really portrayed the essence of the man, "Belly"
David was and will always be a good man. I, like many will always treasure his friendship. A true gentleman.
